Vinyl glue CLASS D4 plus
Pvac adhesive for external assembly work in the wood sector
VINIL D4 PLUS glue classified as XT5 and XT6 is an easy-to-use two-component adhesive system, to allow the assembly of large wooden structures in extreme environments.
EN 17619
A new standard (EN 17619) has recently been published, which classifies non-structural wood adhesives for exterior use. It defines adhesives that can be used for non-structural applications of wood for exterior use without surface coating protection. This new classification bridges the gap between structural and non-structural applications. Examples of applications include:
- swimming pool boards;
- playgrounds;
- outdoor furniture;
- log cabins, etc.
The new standard provides two classes of durability:
CLASS XT5
It is a two-component adhesive system that is easy to handle. It has a very long life of up to 5 days to allow the assembly of large wooden structures in harsh environments.
Simple rotary mixers can be used to mix the VINIL D4 PLUS polymer dispersion with the specific hardener.
External application with rare exposure to direct weathering, where the glued wooden product is covered by a structural weather protection. For example:
- wood products behind cladding
- products completely protected by roofs
- coverings
- open canopies or sheds
CLASS XT6
It is a very reactive system with a maximum open time of 5 minutes. Although the components mix easily together, it is recommended to mix using an in-line dynamic mixer due to the high reactivity. The polymer dispersion does not require hazard labelling, as indicated by the HSE. External application with occasional but not persistent exposure to direct weathering, where the glued wood product is partially covered by a structural protection, adhesives belonging to the XT classes must have a minimum durability class of D4, as specified in EN 204.
