Proper management of waste resulting from packaging
The European Community has long imposed recovery targets for packaging on Member States.
And in this way we try to reconcile economic and market needs with environmental problems.
To this end, it urges Member States to take “appropriate measures to ensure that users of packaging, including consumers in particular, obtain the necessary information about:
– the return, collection and recovery systems available;
– their role in the reuse, recovery and recycling process of packaging and packaging waste;
– the meaning of the trademarks affixed to the packaging as they appear on the market “.
The most immediate tool to reach the final consumer is environmental labeling
With the entry into force on 26/09/2020 of Legislative Decree 116/2020 for the manufacturer of packaging intended for the final consumer and it has become mandatory to provide information to allow proper collection, reuse, recovery and recycling and to inform consumers on the final destinations of packaging.
The deadlines as at 31/12/2021 to necessarily report some indications relating to information on the collection.
In any case, the provisions subject to suspension can be observed by the operators concerned even before 31 December 2021, on a voluntary basis.
Pursuant to Legislative Decree 116/2020, all packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary) released for consumption in Italy are subject to the obligation of environmental labeling.
